Coach’s Corner with Angie: Muscle Is Like Money in the Bank
We often think of fitness in terms of weight loss, appearance, or reaching a short-term goal. But lean muscle is one of the most valuable investments you can make in your long-term health.
Think of muscle like money in the bank. The more you build and protect over time, the more your body can “withdraw” from when life, stress, illness, injury, or aging challenges you.
Lean muscle does far more than help you feel strong. It supports your metabolism, protects your joints, improves balance and posture, stabilizes blood sugar, and helps your body handle everyday tasks with greater ease. It also acts as a protective reserve as we age.
Beginning in our 30s and 40s, adults naturally begin to lose muscle mass if they are not actively strength training. Over time, this can affect mobility, recovery, injury risk, and independence. Building muscle now creates a stronger foundation for your future health and quality of life.
This is especially important for women moving through perimenopause and menopause. Maintaining lean muscle helps support bone density, metabolism, hormone health, and overall strength during a season when the body can feel like it is changing quickly.
Strength training is not just about lifting heavier weights. It is about building a body that is capable, durable, and prepared for daily life—carrying groceries, climbing stairs, hiking trails, playing with kids or grandkids, recovering from illness, and staying balanced.
Just like saving money, building muscle requires consistency, patience, and long-term thinking. Small deposits made regularly through resistance training, proper nutrition, recovery, and daily movement compound over time into significant benefits.
Your future body depends on what you invest in today.
